I AM . . .
. . . a collaborator, writer, and editor who has spent thirty years in the book trade. In the past five years I have collaborated on multiple New York Times bestsellers, including several at #1. As a book editor I worked with Bob Costas, Tommy Lee, Tim McGraw, Sharon Rocha, Cal Ripkin, Pat Summitt, Priscilla Presley, Pete Holmes, Mike Epps, Joy Behar, Randy Jackson, Jeff Gordon, Rachel Jeffs, Afeni Shakur, Buzz Bissinger, James Campbell, Mitchell Zuckoff, Daniel Wolff, Anthony Weller, and many others. I was the editor of Mark Manson’s multi million copy bestseller The Subtle Art of Not Dining a F*ck, and the editor of Aron Ralston’s Between a Rock and a Hard Place. I have written and published three books of his own, on birding, soccer, and Monty Python, so I know the joys and pains of seeing a book from conception to bookshelf and everything in between.
A British native, I live in California, where I play guitar, look at birds, golf, and ride motorcyles.

I BLUSH . . .
"Luke makes me a better writer, and as a result, a better thinker. His ability to tell me when something stinks of pretension or to utterly demolish what I think is an otherwise pristine paragraph--while absolutely maddening--has been invaluable. My books are so much better for having him."
Mark Manson, author of

“Luke Dempsey is one of the funniest, most charming narrative companions I know. [Club Soccer 101] is the perfect vessel for his genius and one of the world's great reference books.”
Frank Foer, author of
HOW SOCCER EXPLAINS THE WORLD
"Luke is a uniquely gifted editor. 'Fall and Rise: The Story of 9/11' was the most challenging of my eight books. Luke turned what could have been a traumatic editing process into a joyful one. He channeled an intuitive understanding of what I was trying to accomplish into edits large and small that enhanced and enlivened the manuscript. Beyond his wordsmithing, Luke was a tireless advocate for the book and for me. He's also one hell of a good guy. Deep in the project we talked about doing a thousand books together. I'm pretty sure Luke was joking. I wasn't."
Mitchell Zuckoff, author of
FALL AND RISE: The Story of 9/11
“Luke is more than a good editor. He really cares about his authors. He's professional and fun to work with. I couldn't have found a better editor and friend in the book world.”
Rachel Jeffs, author of BREAKING FREE
“I turned down larger publishing advances so that I could work with Luke. When we first met and he pitched me on my own book he showed a total awareness of my skill sets and what my existing audience would want in a book. He understood my overall needs and wouldn't work at cross-purposes between the book and my existing brand. He was working to holistically enhance everything I was doing by helping me put out the best book possible. His no-nonsense approach to honesty also appealed to me. He didn't sugarcoat things and that facilitated communication and understanding wonderfully. We were able to cut out several steps in our conversations because there was no beating around the bush. His humor was the glue that held this whole approach together. When things are getting stressful, having an editor who can make you regularly laugh out loud is therapeutic. I loved working with him. I miss him even now.”
